Not every house wants a color. This one wanted light, and the job was to get more of it into a plan that already worked.

So the changes are quiet: a wider opening to the dining room, marble that runs up the wall behind the range instead of stopping at a backsplash, and cabinetry deep enough that nothing has to live on the counter.

The warmth comes from the wood and the brass rather than from paint, which is why the room still reads as calm at nine in the evening with the pendants on.
